What Is Phycocyanin ?


Spirulina is a blue-green algae that occurs naturally in freshwater and marine habitats. It has a long history as a food supplement in many countries. Spirulina contains chlorophyll and phy-cobilins, which absorb sunlight and have a role in photosynthesis. The phycobilins found in spirulina are phycocyanins, which are blue and, together with chlorophyll, its characteristic blue-green color. Phycocyanin is a natural edible food pigment, it is good at water solubility, non-toxic, pure blue, it also can be used as the cosmetic additive. It has bright color, contains rich protein and some essential amino-acid.
